Pakistan, Malaysia boost economic cooperation with $200m meat deal, new MoUs

October 6, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Malaysia have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors, including defence, agriculture and emerging technologies, during a high-level meeting in Putrajaya between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim.
Addressing a joint news conference after the meeting, Prime
Minister Shehbaz Sharif termed the discussions as highly productive, noting
that both countries share similar perspectives on key regional and global
issues.
He highlighted Pakistan’s interest in benefiting from
Malaysia’s expertise in information technology, artificial intelligence and
economic innovation through joint ventures and mutually beneficial projects.
The Prime Minister also welcomed Malaysia’s decision to
import meat worth $200 million from Pakistan, assuring that Pakistan would
fully meet the required standards and conditions.
Referring to the introduce of the Urdu translation of Prime
Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s book Script, Shehbaz Sharif described it as a
framework rooted in sustainability, mutual respect and innovation.
He praised Anwar Ibrahim’s visionary leadership and
emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to empowering its youth with modern education
to drive progress and prosperity in partnership with Malaysia.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed the
historic and fraternal ties between the two nations, noting that economic
cooperation has always been a cornerstone of their relationship.
He informed the expansion of rice imports from Pakistan and
confirmed facilitation for Pakistani beef exports.
He also stressed the potential for collaboration in new
technologies and commended Pakistan’s stance on the Palestine issue.
Earlier, both sides signed several Memorandums of
Understanding (MoUs) covering higher education, tourism, Halal certification,
anti-corruption initiatives and the development of small and medium enterprises
(SMEs).
