Pakistan, Italy to strengthen marble industry ties

October 16, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Italy are set to strengthen their collaboration in the marble and granite sector, focusing on technology transfer, skill development, and expanding international market access.

A high level meeting chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan reviewed progress on the bilateral agreement and discussed ways to modernize Pakistan’s marble industry through innovation and global partnerships.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that land has already been allocated for the establishment of Marble City in Risalpur, envisioned as a center for processing, innovation and exports. The initiative aims to upgrade the sector to international standards, fostering growth and competitiveness.

Haroon Akhtar reaffirmed the Ministry of Industries and Production’s commitment to advancing cooperation with Italy, noting that the partnership would open new avenues for investment and value addition in the stone industry.

“In line with the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan is committed to transforming the marble sector through modern technology and international collaboration,” he stated.

The Special Assistant also directed that the project be given priority in the upcoming Pakistan–Italy Joint Economic Commission (JEC) 2025, emphasizing its significance for both countries. He further instructed for a follow-up meeting with all stakeholders to ensure swift implementation of the decisions taken.
