Pakistan, Iran leaders discuss bilateral ties

September 1, 2025 (MLN): On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Member States summit in Tianjin, China, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and federal ministers also attended the meeting.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to its historic ties with Iran, emphasizing shared history, cultural heritage and faith as the foundations of the relationship.

Both leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation across diverse sectors and expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum in relations.

Shehbaz Sharif referred to the Iranian President’s August 2025 visit to Pakistan as an important step in strengthening bilateral ties and conveyed the happiness of the Pakistani people on his recent visit.

He stressed the need for further deepening political and economic relations, reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran and emphasized dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path toward regional peace and stability.

President Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s consistent support, reaffirmed Iran’s resolve to enhance cooperation and expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and property in the ongoing floods in Pakistan, assuring that Iran stands shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan in this hour of need.
