Pakistan, Iran commit to $10bn trade milestone

August 20, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their resolve to achieve the bilateral trade target of $10 billion, with both sides prioritizing agriculture and food security as key drivers of economic cooperation.

The commitment came during a meeting between Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and the First Vice President of Iran, Dr. Mohammad Reza Aref.

Rana Tanveer conveyed Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif’s vision for expanding trade and economic relations with Iran and highlighted Pakistan’s readiness to boost exports of rice, corn, bananas, meat, livestock, pesticides, and other agricultural products.

He emphasized that deeper collaboration in agriculture could serve as a catalyst for broader economic integration between the two nations.

The Minister also focused on Pakistan’s priority of strengthening ties with Iran across trade, culture, history, and people-to-people exchanges, while stressing joint efforts to tackle food security, climate change, and sustainable agriculture.

Dr. Aref appreciated Pakistan’s proposals and assured that Iran remains committed to consolidating progress through the early convening of the Joint Economic Committee (JEC).

Both sides expressed confidence that enhanced cooperation would open new avenues for regional stability and prosperity.
