Pakistan, China vow stronger economic ties

September 18, 2025 (MLN): The capital of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (Urumqi) warmly received Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday.

Governor of Xinjiang Erkin Tunya, along with Vice Governor Chen Weijun, formally welcomed the visiting dignitary upon his arrival in Urumqi. Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zemin was also present at the reception.

In a gesture of hospitality, Governor Erkin Tunya insisted on personally escorting President Zardari to the State Guest House. He accompanied the president in his car to the residence.

President Zardari held meetings aimed at boosting economic ties and strengthening Pakistan-China relations.

Discussions focused on deepening cooperation in regional connectivity, trade, and investment, reaffirming the commitment of both sides to expanding strategic and economic collaboration.

According to the President Secretariat Press Wing, the visit to Urumqi is expected to further enhance regional cooperation between Pakistan and China.

Earlier in the day, President Zardari departed Shanghai for Urumqi. At Hongqiao International Airport, he was seen off by Shanghai CPC Secretary Chen Jining alongside senior Chinese and Pakistani officials.
