July 30, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan has called for formalizing agricultural cooperation with China through multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at joint research in biotechnology, crop improvement, pest control, and sustainable farming practices.

The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain with a senior Chinese delegation comprising government officials, agricultural scientists, and private sector representatives.

The Chinese side expressed strong interest in investing across critical areas of Pakistan’s agriculture sector, including seed development, precision farming, smart irrigation, and agro-processing, said a press release issued.

They highlighted China’s technological progress and offered to transfer expertise through partnerships with Pakistani institutions.

Minister Hussain highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to transforming its agriculture sector, noting that the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) would be developed into a center of excellence.

He emphasized the role of research, climate-resilient practices, and advanced technologies in enhancing farmer productivity and long-term national food security.

The Minister directed PARC and relevant departments to begin preparing detailed concept papers to define collaboration areas and ensure rapid implementation. He also encouraged expert-level visits to China to learn from successful agricultural models that could be tailored to Pakistan’s needs.

The Chinese delegation welcomed the proposals and praised Pakistan’s strategic vision for agricultural reform. They assured full support from both the Chinese government and private sector in facilitating technology transfer and establishing effective institutional links.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to elevate agricultural collaboration to a new level, promising concrete outcomes in the months ahead through structured planning and execution.
