Pakistan, Azerbaijan chart closer skies

May 13, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to explore expanded cooperation across energy, tourism, and regional connectivity, with both sides identifying joint ventures and stronger bilateral partnerships as key priorities.

The two countries also discussed boosting flight links in response to growing travel demand, with around 90,000 Pakistani citizens having visited Azerbaijan last year out of approximately 120,000 granted e-visas and ASAN visas.

Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Khazar Farhadov, called on Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, in Islamabad, according to a press release issued.

The Ambassador briefed the Minister on the upcoming World Urban Forum and discussed the possibility of meetings between Dr. Musadik Malik and Azerbaijan's Ministers of Energy and Ecology during his anticipated visit to Baku.

Dr. Musadik Malik described Azerbaijan as one of Pakistan's most strategic partners, noting that bilateral relations are rooted in mutual trust, shared values, and regional connectivity.

He added that Pakistan could benefit from Azerbaijan's experience in developing its tourism sector, and that promoting tourism and related industries could generate millions of jobs for Pakistani youth.

Ambassador Farhadov expressed satisfaction over growing cooperation among Pakistan, Türkiye, and Central Asian countries, noting that stronger alliances among these nations could significantly contribute to regional economic growth.
