November 26, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Azerbaijan reaffirmed their
commitment to strengthening economic cooperation as the two countries reviewed ongoing collaboration
in trade and investment and agreed to accelerate efforts to diversify and
expand bilateral economic ties across multiple sectors.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held talks
with Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister
of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, who is leading a senior delegation on
an official visit to Pakistan, according to a press release.
The discussions covered defence production, petroleum and
minerals, infrastructure development, dairy and livestock, hospitality, and
information technology, with both sides noting steady growth in bilateral
trade.
Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s proposal to set
up a Pakistan-Azerbaijan Joint Investment Company with equal contributions and
welcomed Azerbaijan’s interest in the White Oil Pipeline Project.
He also encouraged SOCAR to explore upstream oil and gas
opportunities in Pakistan.
Both sides highlighted the importance of enhanced regional
connectivity, with the Prime Minister Pakistan’s position as the shortest route to
Afghanistan and Central Asia and acknowledging Azerbaijan’s key role in the
Trans-Caspian International Trade Corridor.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s desire to deepen the partnership, the
Prime Minister invited President Ilham Aliyev to visit Pakistan. Minister
Jabbarov expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s hospitality and voiced optimism
that upcoming engagements would lead to the finalisation of the Roadmap on
Cooperation in Commerce, Economy, Industry and Investment (2025–2028).
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Power Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi, and other senior officials.
