PSX Closing Bell: Stairway to Gains

August 20, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Wednesday's trading session at 150,591.00, showing an increase of 820.26 points or 0.55%.

The index remained positive throughout the day showing an intraday high of 151,261.67 (+1,490.93) and a low of 149,931.67 (+160.93) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 275.22 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 56 closed up, 43 closed down, while 1 were unchanged.

Top gainers during the day were SCBPL (+10.00%), SEARL (+10.00%), THALL (+9.84%), NATF (+5.02%), and KOHC (+4.65%).

On the other hand, top losers were PGLC (-4.41%), GADT (-3.43%), PKGP (-3.35%), IBFL (-2.82%), and MEHT (-2.34%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were SYS (+151.00pts), BAHL (+92.05pts), NBP (+89.08pts), SEARL (+86.99pts), and MCB (+85.04pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were FFC (-140.05pts), ENGROH (-80.30pts), EFERT (-49.48pts), UBL (-41.83pts), and PSO (-33.45pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Commercial Banks (+562.16pts), Technology & Communication (+136.05pts), Pharmaceuticals (+127.37pts), Automobile Parts & Accessories (+76.05pts), and Automobile Assembler (+73.06pts).

While the index was let down by Fertilizer (-180.36pts), Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (-69.63pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-32.47pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-25.59pts), and Real Estate Investment Trust (-15.23pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 92,682.88 with a net gain of 527.10 points or 0.57%.

Total market volume was 667.82 million shares compared to 809.08m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs40.73 billion showing a decrease of Rs7.70bn.

There were 384,664 trades reported in 486 companies with 240 closing up, 215 closing down, and 31 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 24,964 points or 19.87% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 35,464 points or 30.80% so far this calendar year.
