PSX Closing Bell: Bright Start to the Week

October 20, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Monday's trading session at 166,242.90, showing an increase of 2,436.69 points or 1.49%.

The index remained positive throughout the day showing an intraday high of 166,421.33 (+2,615.12) and a low of 164,281.95 (+475.74) points as Pakistan and Afghanistan have reached an immediate ceasefire agreement following negotiations in Doha, Qatar, with both sides pledging to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 704.43 million shares.

 

Of the 100 index companies 70 closed up, 30 closed down, while 0 were unchanged.

Top gainers during the day were PSEL (+10.00%), NATF (+10.00%), AKBL (+10.00%), BOP (+9.99%), and PIBTL (+8.94%).

On the other hand, top losers were KEL (-5.28%), MEHT (-4.05%), POL (-2.46%), AGP (-1.63%), and LOTCHEM (-1.56%).

 

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were HBL (+284.66pts), UBL (+254.55pts), BOP (+166.67pts), NBP (+144.44pts), and AKBL (+138.28pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were POL (-69.65pts), KEL (-36.29pts), CHCC (-17.82pts), BWCL (-11.99pts), and SAZEW (-11.71pts).

 

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Commercial Banks (+1440.06pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+207.24pts), Fertilizer (+138.93pts), Miscellaneous (+114.85pts), and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (+93.31pts).

While the index was let down by Refinery (-12.31pts), Chemical (-10.80pts), Automobile Assembler (-10.11pts), Pharmaceuticals (-4.22pts), and Textile Weaving (-0.11pts).

 

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 52,796.35 with a net gain of 755.67 points or 1.45%.

Total market volume was 1,478.59 million shares compared to 1,978.65m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs51.87 billion showing an increase of Rs14.88bn.

There were 451,094 trades reported in 485 companies with 289 closing up, 156 closing down, and 40 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 40,616 points or 32.33% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 51,116 points or 44.40% so far this calendar year.
