PSX Closing Bell: A Tough Day at the Office

August 27, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Wednesday's trading session at 147,494.03, showing a decrease of 941.03 points or 0.63%.

The index traded in a range of 1,900.89 points showing an intraday high of 149,237.91 (+802.85) and a low of 147,337.02 (-1,098.04) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 186.41 million shares.

 

Of the 100 index companies 21 closed up, 78 closed down, while 1 was unchanged.

Top losers during the day were AGP (-6.95%), SRVI (-6.42%), KOHC (-5.69%), FATIMA (-5.21%), and ABOT (-3.79%).

On the other hand, top gainers were UPFL (+6.54%), EPCL (+6.02%), PAEL (+3.11%), INIL (+2.85%), and SAZEW (+1.69%).

 

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were HBL (-70.67pts), FATIMA (-70.16pts), SRVI (-67.60pts), NBP (-65.50pts), and MARI (-57.76pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were MEBL (+56.31pts), ENGROH (+41.81pts), MCB (+38.51pts), PAEL (+23.24pts), and UPFL (+20.79pts).

 

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Cement (-200.80pts), Commercial Banks (-154.93pts), Fertilizer (-121.69pts), Pharmaceuticals (-121.57pts), and Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-118.94pts).

While the index was supported by Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (+35.01pts), Cable & Electrical Goods (+23.24pts), Miscellaneous (+17.02pts), Automobile Assembler (+16.08pts), and Engineering (+14.40pts).

 

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 90,983.70 with a net loss of 570.94 points or 0.62%.

Total market volume was 856.66 million shares compared to 665.42m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs29.29 billion showing a decrease of Rs2.26bn.

There were 357,536 trades reported in 477 companies with 129 closing up, 312 closing down, and 36 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 21,867 points or 17.41% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 32,367 points or 28.11% so far this calendar year.
