PSX Closing Bell: A Hazy Shade of Red

October 17, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Friday's trading session at 163,806.21, showing a decrease of 638.50 points or 0.39%.

The index traded in a range of 1,912.81 points showing an intraday high of 165,030.82 (+586.11) and a low of 163,118.01 (-1,326.70) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 500.44 million shares.

 

Of the 100 index companies 36 closed up, 62 closed down, while 2 were unchanged.

Top losers during the day were PKGP (-5.16%), KEL (-4.16%), TPLRF1 (-3.41%), BNWM (-3.08%), and PTC (-2.44%).

On the other hand, top gainers were BOP (+3.02%), PSX (+2.49%), YOUW (+2.48%), SYS (+2.34%), and ILP (+1.83%).


In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were MARI (-90.66pts), UBL (-77.93pts), HBL (-76.67pts), POL (-68.10pts), and ENGROH (-67.16pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were SYS (+108.38pts), LUCK (+78.45pts), BOP (+48.87pts), HMB (+28.11pts), and BAHL (+25.68pts).

 

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-203.07pts), Commercial Banks (-202.55pts), Power Generation & Distribution (-91.42pts), Fertilizer (-65.62pts), and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-61.06pts).

While the index was supported by Technology & Communication (+85.34pts), Cement (+19.98pts), Textile Composite (+12.01pts), Miscellaneous (+11.18pts), and Paper, Board & Packaging (+5.66pts).

 

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 52,040.68 with a net loss of 309.14 points or 0.59%.

Total market volume was 1,978.65 million shares compared to 3,078.37m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs36.99 billion showing a decrease of Rs13.62bn.

There were 402,889 trades reported in 483 companies with 166 closing up, 277 closing down, and 40 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 38,179 points or 30.39% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 48,679 points or 42.28% so far this calendar year.
