PM Shehbaz Sharif aims to deepen economic links in China

September 01, 2025 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is seeking more investment during his visit to China. He will meet Chinese business leaders and speak at the Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference in Beijing.

The foreign office said the visit is part of regular exchanges between the two countries and aims to deepen their “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.”

Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tianjin on Saturday for a five-day visit at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. His agenda includes participation in the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State Summit and ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance.

He was received at Tianjin Airport by senior Chinese officials including CPC customs chief Sun Meijun, Tianjin Party Secretary Yu Yunlin, Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, and Pakistan’s envoy Khalil Hashmi.

He is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and senior officials.

Talks with Xi and Premier Li Qiang will focus on advancing the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and expanding bilateral cooperation.

Shehbaz Sharif will also join a military parade in Beijing alongside world leaders to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the World Anti-Fascist War.

This marks his first visit to China since the May conflict with India, when Islamabad said it shot down six Indian fighter jets, including French-made Rafale aircraft.
