PKR posts marginal gain against USD

June 11, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee posted a marginal gain against the US dollar in Thursday’s interbank market, extending its stable performance as the local currency settled at PKR 278.35 per dollar, compared to the previous close of PKR 278.36.

During the trading session, the rupee moved within a narrow range, touching an intraday high of PKR 278.40 and a low of PKR 278.35 against the greenback, reflecting subdued volatility in the foreign exchange market.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 278.60 for buying and PKR 279.50 for selling.

The local currency also recorded gains against most major international currencies. The rupee appreciated against the Euro, ending the session at PKR 321.30 compared to PKR 321.48 a day earlier. It also strengthened versus the British Pound, closing at PKR 372.43 against the previous level of PKR 372.57.

Similarly, the rupee advanced against the Swiss Franc and Japanese Yen, settling at PKR 348.22 and PKR 1.7342, respectively. Against the Chinese Yuan, the local unit remained broadly stable at PKR 41.07.

However, the rupee posted a slight decline against the Saudi Riyal, closing at PKR 74.15, while it registered a marginal gain against the UAE Dirham to settle at PKR 75.79.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated by PKR 5.41, or 1.94%, against the US dollar during the ongoing fiscal year. Since the start of calendar year 2026, the currency has strengthened by PKR 1.77, reflecting a gain of 0.64%.

Meanwhile, activity in the money market remained firm, with the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer Rates rising by 3 basis points to 12.29% and 12.54%, respectively.
