PKR edges up to Rs277 against USD

October 09, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee edged up against the US dollar in the interbank market on Friday, gaining 0.93 paisa to settle at Rs277.00 per dollar, compared to the previous close of Rs277.01.

During the session, the dollar recorded an intraday high bid of Rs277.05 and a low ask of Rs277.00.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs277.25 for buying and Rs278.05 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee weakened against the euro, losing Rs1.06 or 0.34% to close at Rs310.95, compared to Rs309.89 in the previous session.

The local currency also depreciated against the British pound, falling Rs1.29 or 0.35% to settle at Rs366.85 from Rs365.56 a day earlier.

Similarly, the rupee declined by Rs1.33 or 0.40% against the Swiss franc, closing at Rs333.44.

In contrast, the rupee strengthened against the Japanese yen, gaining 0.10 paisa or 0.06% to settle at Rs1.7501, compared to Rs1.7511 in the preceding session.

Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee weakened by 5.73 paisa or 0.14%, closing at Rs41.39 versus Rs41.33 previously.

The local unit gained 0.45 paisa against the Saudi riyal to settle at Rs73.78, while it appreciated by 0.97 paisa against the UAE dirham to close at Rs75.42.

Since the beginning of the current fiscal year, the rupee has gained Rs1.16 or 0.42% against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, it has appreciated by Rs3.12 or 1.13%.

Meanwhile, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates (KIBOR) increased by 3 basis points to 12.16% and 12.41%, respectively.
