PKR holds steady against USD

April 16, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) increased by 0.97 paisa against the US dollar in Thursday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 278.95 per USD, compared to previous closing of 278.96.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 279 and a low (ask) of 278.95.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279 for buying and 280 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR increased 16.48 paisa or 0.05% against the Euro, closing at 328.63 compared to the previous value of 328.80.

Against the British Pound, PKR strengthened by 54.30 paisa or 0.14% to 377.72 compared to 378.26 a day ago.

The local unit rose 1.11 rupees or 0.31% against Swiss franc to close at 356.06.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR's value strengthened 0.21 paisa or 0.12% to close the session at 1.7538 versus 1.7559 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee gained 1.32 paisa or 0.03% against Chinese Yuan to close at 40.90 from 40.91.

The local currency deteriorated by 0.53 paisa or 0.01% against Saudi Riyal to 74.35. While it rose by 0.16 paisa against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 75.94.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has rose against the US Dollar by 4.81 rupees or 1.72%. While it has rose 1.17 rupees or 0.42% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates fell by 8bps to 11.21% and 11.46%.
