PKR holds steady against USD

January 21, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) remained mostly stable, appreciated by 0.83 paisa against the US dollar in Wednesday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 279.90 per USD, compared to previous closing of 279.91.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 280.3 and a low (ask) of 280.95.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 280.30 for buying and 280.95 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR deteriorated 66.22 paisa or 0.2% against the Euro, closing at 327.85 compared to the previous value of 327.19.

Against the British Pound, PKR gained by 1.16 rupees or 0.31% to 376.12 compared to 377.28 a day ago.

The local unit fell 70.23 paisa or 0.2% against Swiss franc to close at 353.48.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR's value deteriorated 0.45 paisa or 0.25% to close the session at 1.7723 versus 1.7678 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee gained 2.14 paisa against Chinese Yuan to close at 40.19 from 40.21.

The local currency increased by 0.22 paisa against Saudi Riyal to 74.64. While it increased by 0.44 paisa against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 76.21.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has increased against the US Dollar by 3.86 rupees or 1.38%. While it has rose 21.98 paisa or 0.08% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched up by 1bps to 10.06% and 10.31%.
