PKR holds firm, posts gains vs USD

May 13, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) continued to trade in positive territory against the US dollar on Wednesday, registering a marginal appreciation of 0.94 paisa in the interbank market. The currency closed at PKR 278.65 per USD, slightly stronger than the previous session’s close of 278.66.

During the trading session, the rupee recorded an intraday high (bid) of 278.70 and a low (ask) of 278.65, indicating relatively stable movement within a narrow range.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 278.80 for buying and 279.70 for selling.

Against major global currencies, the rupee showed a mixed performance. It strengthened by PKR 1.01, or 0.31%, against the euro to close at 326.25 compared to 327.26 in the previous session.

However, it weakened by 40.52 paisa, or 0.11%, against the British pound, settling at 376.86 versus 376.46 a day earlier.

The local currency appreciated 30.88 paisa, or 0.09%, against the Swiss franc to close at 356.54.

Against the Japanese yen, it gained 0.26 paisa, or 0.15%, ending at 1.7662 compared to 1.7688 in the previous session.

Meanwhile, the rupee slipped 2.61 paisa, or 0.06%, against the Chinese yuan to close at 41.03 versus 41.01.

Against Gulf currencies, the rupee edged higher, gaining 1.04 paisa against the Saudi riyal to close at 74.26 and 1.08 paisa against the UAE dirham to settle at 75.86.

On a broader timeline, the PKR has appreciated by Rs5.11, or 1.83%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year, while it is up Rs1.47, or 0.53%, so far in the calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 11.81% and 12.06%, respectively.
