PKR holds firm, edges higher against USD

April 06, 2026 (MLN):The Pakistani rupee (PKR) strengthened marginally by 2.90 paisa against the US dollar in Monday’s interbank session, closing at PKR 279.07 per USD compared to the previous close of 279.10.

During the session, the currency recorded an intraday high (bid) of 279.25 and a low (ask) of 279.05.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279.00 for buying and 280.10 for selling.

Against major currencies, however, the rupee showed a mixed performance. It depreciated by 63.63 paisa, or 0.20%, versus the Euro to close at 322.82, compared to 322.18 previously.

Similarly, the PKR weakened by 49.18 paisa, or 0.13%, against the British Pound to settle at 370.00, down from 369.50 a day earlier.

The local unit also declined by 35.87 paisa, or 0.10%, against the Swiss franc, closing at 350.18.

Against the Japanese Yen, the rupee slipped by 0.22 paisa, or 0.13%, to end the session at 1.7511 compared to 1.7489.

On the other hand, the rupee gained ground against some regional currencies. It appreciated by 2.81 paisa, or 0.07%, against the Chinese Yuan to close at 40.55, up from 40.58.

The local currency also strengthened by 2.06 paisa, or 0.03%, against the Saudi Riyal to 74.33, and by 2.03 paisa, or 0.03%, against the UAE Dirham to close at 75.98.

So far in the current fiscal year, the rupee has appreciated by 4.69 rupees, or 1.68%, against the US dollar. On a calendar year basis, it has gained 1.05 rupees, or 0.38%.

In the money market, the benchmark 6-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates rose by 6 basis points to 11.45% and 11.70%, respectively.
