PKR edges higher against USD

June 02, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) continued its appreciating trend against the US dollar, posting a marginal gain of 0.94 paisa in Tuesday’s interbank session to close at PKR 278.46 per USD compared with the previous close of 278.47.

During the day, the currency recorded an intraday high (bid) of 278.50 and a low (ask) of 278.45.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 278.70 for buying and 279.55 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee showed mixed performance.

It strengthened against the euro by 24.78 paisa to settle at 324.41, while it weakened against the British pound by 15.43 paisa to close at 375.19.

The local unit gained 69.17 paisa against the Swiss franc to finish at 354.84 and edged up 0.25 paisa against the Japanese yen to 1.7439.

In contrast, the rupee depreciated 1.87 paisa against the Chinese yuan to 41.18. It appreciated slightly against the Saudi riyal by 0.65 paisa to 74.20, while slipping marginally by 0.05 paisa against the UAE dirham to close at 75.82.

On a broader basis, the rupee has gained PKR 5.30 (1.90%) against the US dollar during the current fiscal year and is up PKR 1.66 (0.60%) so far in the calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark 6-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 12.23% and 12.48%, respectively.
