PKR continues appreciation trend against USD

June 04, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee continued its upward trajectory against the US dollar on Thursday, marking another session of gains in the interbank market amid improving currency stability and steady foreign exchange sentiment.

According to market data, the local currency appreciated by 2.86 paisa against the greenback, with the US dollar closing at PKR 278.42 compared to the previous session’s closing level of PKR 278.45.

During intraday trading, the dollar touched a high of PKR 278.45 and a low of PKR 278.40.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 278.00 for buying and PKR 279.50 for selling.

The rupee also posted gains against most major international currencies. Against the Euro, the local unit strengthened by 28 paisa to settle at PKR 323.14.

It advanced by 85 paisa versus the British Pound, which closed at PKR 373.80.

Similarly, the rupee gained Rs1.15 against the Swiss Franc to end the session at PKR 351.59. Against the Japanese Yen, the local currency improved by 0.15% to PKR 1.7413.

The domestic currency also recorded gains against regional currencies, appreciating by 3 paisa against the Chinese Yuan to PKR 41.09.

It edged higher against the Saudi Riyal, closing at PKR 74.16, while the UAE Dirham settled at PKR 75.81 after a marginal gain of nearly one paisa.

The latest advance further strengthened the rupee’s performance for the current fiscal year, during which it has appreciated by Rs5.34, or 1.92%, against the US dollar.

On a calendar-year basis, the currency has gained Rs1.70, reflecting an appreciation of 0.61%.

Meanwhile, activity in the money market remained largely stable, with the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inching up by one basis point to 12.24% and 12.49%, respectively.
