July 03, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has introduced a new initiative allowing overseas Pakistanis to register one mobile device without paying taxes, valid for up to 120 days during each visit to the country.

The initiative, aligned with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)’s policy, is designed to ensure uninterrupted mobile connectivity for short-term visitors and improve digital inclusion.

According to PTA, eligible individuals can register one mobile device per visit without paying any FBR taxes, with the registration remaining valid for 120 days from the date of entry.

The facility is being provided free of cost through an automated Temporary Mobile Registration System, which can be accessed via the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) portal.

In a statement, PTA highlighted that the step reflects its commitment to easing access for overseas Pakistanis and supporting a secure and verified digital environment.

The initiative is also expected to help curb device smuggling and streamline mobile usage for travelers in the country.
