April 7, 2026 (MLN): The 9th edition of Heritage Istanbul Fair has emerged as a key platform for advancing global conservation efforts, with a strong focus on deepening collaboration between Türkiye and China.
Held from April 1 to 4 at the Yenikapi Eurasia Exhibition
and Show Center, the event brought together more than 140 domestic and
international companies, highlighting innovation in restoration, museology, and
archaeology while promoting cross-border partnerships.
Emphasized that growing bilateral ties between Türkiye and
China are opening new avenues for collaboration, particularly by combining
China’s technological expertise in museum development with Türkiye’s
long-standing strength in restoration and conservation.
A key highlight of the event was a forward-looking proposal
by renowned archaeologist Nezih Basgelen, who called for the creation of a
modern “Heritage Silk Road,” according to APP.
The initiative aims to revive the historical connections of
the ancient Silk Road through cultural cooperation and preservation efforts.
Speaking at the event, Basgelen underlined the historical
significance shared by the two nations, noting that both regions are among the
world’s earliest centers of Neolithic civilization.
He stressed that this shared legacy from early agricultural
development to architectural innovation creates a strong foundation for joint
leadership in global heritage protection, particularly under international
platforms such as the United Nations.
From a business perspective, Nihat Okten, CEO of Miniature
Art, highlighted ongoing collaboration with Chinese partners.
His company has developed detailed scale models of iconic
Chinese landmarks, including the Yellow Crane Tower and the Temple of Heaven.
Okten noted that expanding partnerships in architectural
modeling and miniature park development could unlock new investment
opportunities for both countries.
Meanwhile, Osman Murat Akan, founder of Heritage Projects,
described the fair as part of a broader “Heritage Week” that featured more than
120 international speakers.
The event also saw participation from global stakeholders,
including representatives from Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Europe, and
the United States.
Looking ahead, organizers are aiming to further strengthen
Chinese participation in future editions.
Plans are already underway to integrate Chinese expertise in
museum technologies and library systems, with expectations of a stronger
presence from Chinese professionals by 2028.
As global interest in cultural preservation grows, Heritage
Istanbul continues to position itself as a vital hub for international
cooperation bridging historical ties and modern innovation to safeguard shared
heritage for future generations.
