Govt ensures fertilizer supply for Kharif season

March 31, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has sufficient stocks of key fertilizers, including urea and DAP, to fully meet the requirements of the upcoming Kharif cropping season, according to the latest review by the Fertilizer Review Committee.

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, chaired the weekly meeting, which was attended by provincial representatives, senior officials, and key stakeholders from the fertilizer industry.

The Minister categorically assured that there is no shortage of urea or DAP in the country. Carryover urea reserves are expected to reach around 570,000 tonnes by the end of the Kharif season.

While DAP buffer stocks are projected to remain stable at approximately 96,000 tonnes until the end of July, covering peak sowing months, according to the press release.

He emphasized that the government is maintaining vigilant and proactive monitoring to ensure uninterrupted supply and prevent any artificial market disruptions.

Rana Tanveer Hussain directed all stakeholders to distribute fertilizers efficiently and warned that no company would be allowed to hoard stocks or inflate prices, with strict action to be taken against any such practices.

He noted that, despite global price volatility, Pakistan has managed to maintain domestic price stability through timely government interventions, protecting farmers and safeguarding national food security.

The meeting also reviewed supply chain and logistics arrangements to ensure smooth transportation and availability of fertilizers across all regions of the country.

Provincial officials expressed satisfaction over the current supply conditions and reaffirmed their coordination with the federal government.

Concluding the meeting, the Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and strengthening the agriculture sector.

With adequate reserves, strong coordination, and continuous monitoring through weekly review meetings, Pakistan is well-prepared to meet its agricultural input requirements for the Kharif season without disruption, providing farmers confidence in stable availability and pricing.
