October 01, 2025 (MLN): The Government has emphasized that a revitalized Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is essential for enhancing the country’s global connectivity and unlocking its trade and tourism potential.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar made these remarks during a meeting with PIA CEO Aamir Hayat, who called on him in Islamabad to discuss the national carrier’s future direction., said a press release issued today.

Both sides exchanged views on restructuring strategies and operational improvements aimed at restoring the airline’s status as a reliable and competitive international operator.

In a positive development aligning with these goals, PIA has officially resumed its flight operations to Toronto, Canada, after a suspension of over two weeks due to essential aircraft maintenance.

The first flight from Karachi to Toronto successfully departed earlier this week, restoring direct connectivity between Pakistan and Canada a route relied upon by thousands of passengers for both business and personal travel.

The suspension, which began on September 13, was implemented to carry out critical maintenance checks to ensure flight safety. During this downtime, passengers faced disruptions and were forced to seek alternate travel options.

PIA has now confirmed that all necessary technical work has been completed, with aircraft cleared for international operations.

The airline reiterated its commitment to maintaining high safety standards while enhancing service reliability.
