October 08, 2025 (MLN): The government has
reaffirmed that Pakistan’s economic growth must be led by the private sector,
while its own role is to create a supportive ecosystem for businesses to
thrive.
This was stated by Finance Minister
Muhammad Aurangzeb during a meeting with a high-level delegation from Acumen,
led by its Founder and Chief Executive Officer Jacqueline Novogratz, said a
press release issued.
The minister highlighted Pakistan’s
shift toward an export-led growth model, supported by tariff reforms and responsible
fiscal management, aimed at breaking the country’s boom-and-bust cycle.
Appreciating Acumen’s continued
engagement in Pakistan, particularly in agriculture and climate resilience,
Aurangzeb outlined government efforts to reduce energy and financing costs,
improve the investment climate, and promote public-private partnerships.
He also briefed the delegation on the Prime
Minister’s recent visits to Beijing, Riyadh, and Washington D.C., noting the
strong support expressed by strategic partners for expanding investment and
trade flows.
Aurangzeb further emphasized that the
government has cleared the backlog of foreign profit and dividend repatriations,
adding that improved macroeconomic stability has made such transactions smooth
and non-disruptive.
The minister thanked Acumen for its
confidence in Pakistan and lauded its work in supporting climate-smart
agriculture, food system resilience, and poverty alleviation.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms.
Novogratz reaffirmed Acumen’s long-term commitment to Pakistan, particularly in
agriculture, climate resilience, energy, and poverty reduction.
She praised Pakistan’s young entrepreneurial talent, emphasizing that greater access to finance could help turn innovative ideas into scalable businesses with lasting social and economic impact.
