August 20, 2025 (MLN): China remained the largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Pakistan during July 2025, contributing $51 million, or 25% of total inflows, despite a steep 39% drop from the same month last year.

Hong Kong followed with $30m, also down 39% from July 2024. In contrast, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom posted moderate gains, injecting $21m, $20m, and $17m, respectively.

These three countries collectively accounted for 27% of the month’s FDI, signalling a shift in investor composition.

Germany reported no investment activity in July, down from $4m a year earlier, while Norway’s contribution halved to $5 million. The United States held steady at $4m, showing little change.

Overall, Pakistan has recorded a value of $208.09m in July, compared to $194.7m in the Same Period Last Year (SPLY), the latest data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) showed.

Comparison on a month-on-month basis shows that the country reported an investment of $385m in the previous month.
