July 01, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan needs stronger partnerships between the public and private sectors to effectively address climate change and advance women's economic empowerment, speakers emphasized during CARE Pakistan's flagship "Partners for Impact: Building Pakistan's Future Together" event in Islamabad.
The gathering brought together representatives from the
Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination (MoCC&EC),
development agencies, financial institutions, corporate leaders and civil
society organisations to explore collaborative solutions for sustainable
development.
CARE Pakistan Country Director Adil Sheraz said the
country's growing development challenges, particularly climate change and
economic inequality, require coordinated efforts from governments, businesses,
development partners and local communities, according to APP.
He noted that long-term economic progress depends on climate
resilience, while inclusive growth cannot be achieved without expanding
economic opportunities for women.
Delivering the keynote address, World Bank representative
Gul Najam Jamy highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in
addressing climate risks, generating employment and promoting women's economic
participation.
He stressed that governments, the private sector, civil
society and development partners must work collectively to mobilise resources
and foster inclusive growth.
The event featured two panel discussions focused on climate
resilience and women's economic empowerment.
The first session, titled "From Vulnerability to
Resilience: Financing and Scaling Climate Action in Pakistan,"
examined innovative financing models and partnerships to strengthen climate
resilience.
Representatives from Meezan Bank, Zarai Taraqiati Bank
Limited (ZTBL), QA Solar and Syngenta discussed climate-smart agriculture,
renewable energy, resilient infrastructure and sustainable business practices.
The second discussion, "Accelerating Women's
Economic Empowerment: From Inclusion to Leadership," explored
strategies to increase women's participation in the economy through skills
development, digital inclusion, entrepreneurship and leadership opportunities.
Panelists from JazzWorld, The Coca-Cola Company, CrossRoad
Consultants, Packages Group and GIZ Pakistan underscored the importance of
removing barriers that limit women's participation in the workforce and
expanding access to inclusive employment.
Munawar Sultana of GIZ Pakistan said sustainable employment
for women requires demand-driven skills development, stronger cross-sector
collaboration and gender-responsive policies to address structural challenges.
Hiba Dar of The Coca-Cola Company added that investing in
women's skills, entrepreneurship and leadership strengthens communities while
supporting broader economic growth.
Participants also highlighted the need to improve digital
and financial inclusion to create greater opportunities for women across
businesses, workplaces and local communities.
The event concluded with participating organisations
reaffirming their commitment to building partnerships that enhance climate
resilience, strengthen livelihoods and promote inclusive economic
opportunities, particularly for women and vulnerable communities.
