August 25, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral economic cooperation, with Germany extending felicitations on the recent upgrade of Pakistan's sovereign credit rating by Moody's and commending the progress made on the economic front despite regional geo-strategic challenges.

The improved rating, it was noted, reflected growing confidence in Pakistan's economic outlook and ongoing reform efforts, with both sides highlighting the importance of sustained engagement to strengthen business ties between the two countries.

The development came as German Ambassador to Pakistan,  Ms. Ina Lepel, called on Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, at a meeting held to review the bilateral economic relationship, said a press release issued.

The finance minister apprised the Ambassador of Pakistan's recent macroeconomic progress, citing stronger foreign exchange buffers and continued efforts toward fiscal discipline.

He pointed to the government's focus on sustaining macroeconomic stability, advancing structural reforms, and creating a more conducive environment for investment and business activity.

The two sides also discussed matters relating to German multinational companies operating in Pakistan and avenues to further strengthen the business environment, with the finance minister stressing the importance of policy continuity, improved business facilitation, and institutional reforms to support greater economic engagement.

Senator Aurangzeb further outlined the government's ongoing digitalization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), highlighting the role of technology-driven reforms in improving tax administration, transparency, and efficiency.

He noted that greater digitalization would simplify processes, strengthen compliance, and contribute to a more predictable and transparent ecosystem for international businesses operating in Pakistan, while reiterating the government's continued focus on strengthening institutions and improving investor confidence.

For her part, Ambassador Lepel appreciated the government's ongoing efforts toward economic stabilization and structural reforms, reaffirming Germany's continued interest in strengthening bilateral economic and business relations with Pakistan, and expressing support for greater collaboration between German and Pakistani companies.

She also extended an invitation to the Finance Minister to attend the 19th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business (APK), scheduled to be held in Seoul later this year a platform aimed at fostering dialogue between business and political leaders and strengthening economic relations between Europe's largest economy and the Indo-Pacific region.

The meeting concluded with both sides emphasizing their shared commitment to maintaining close engagement and exploring further opportunities to deepen Pakistan-Germany economic cooperation.
