Breakup of trade data in July: PBS

August 21, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan’s trade deficit in July 2025 widened by 10.57% MoM to $3.18 billion, compared to $2.87bn in June 2025, according to provisional data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

On a yearly basis, the trade gap surged 29.43% from $2.45bn recorded in July 2024.

The increase in the deficit came as imports rose by 9.58% MoM to $5.86bn in July, up from $5.35bn in June. On a YoY basis, imports climbed 23.13% compared to $4.76bn in July 2024.

Exports also posted growth but at a slower pace, rising 8.44% MoM to $2.68bn in July from $2.47bn in June. Compared to July 2024, exports were higher by 16.43%, up from $2.31bn.

In rupee terms, exports during July 2025 stood at Rs762.75bn, marking an 8.79% increase over June 2025 and an 18.76% jump over July 2024.

Imports, meanwhile, amounted to Rs1.67tr, showing an increase of 10.07% over June 2025 and 25.67% over the same month last year.

As a result, the balance of trade in July 2025 stood at (-)Rs906.49bn in rupee terms and (-)$3.18bn in dollar terms.
