June 16, 2025 (MLN): Saudi Arabia-based food and beverage company Almarai has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of Pure Beverages Industry Co. in a deal valued at SR1.04 billion ($277 million).
The acquisition reflects Almarai’s strategic push to diversify its beverage offerings and further strengthen its market position in the Kingdom.
Pure Beverages Industry Co., known for its bottled water brands “Ival” and “Oska,” operates advanced production facilities adhering to high standards of quality and sustainability.
The company has established itself as a key player in Saudi Arabia’s bottled water sector, which continues to grow in significance.
Almarai, in an official statement, emphasized that the acquisition aligns with its long-term growth plans: “This strategic acquisition is in line with Almarai’s plan to diversify its beverage offerings and enhance its market position."
"We believe this deal will create added value for our shareholders.”
The transaction will be financed entirely through Almarai’s internal cash flows and remains subject to the fulfillment of contractual terms and regulatory approvals within the Kingdom.
The company also confirmed the absence of any related parties in the deal and committed to disclosing any future material developments.
Founded in 1977, Almarai has grown into one of the Middle East’s largest food producers, offering a wide range of products including dairy, juices, baked goods, poultry, and infant nutrition.
It has been listed on the Tadawul stock exchange since 2005 and consistently ranks among the highest-valued firms in the market.
The acquisition comes amid a broader trend of rising mergers and acquisitions in Saudi Arabia, driven by the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 economic reform plan.
Vision 2030 encourages privatization, supports local entrepreneurship, and aims to attract foreign investment across diverse sectors.
According to the General Authority for Statistics, bottled water was the primary drinking water source for Saudi households in 2023, accounting for 57.24% of usage.
This was followed by water from public networks (23.56%) and tanker water (18.60%).
Regulatory oversight of the sector is provided by the Saudi Water Authority, which ensures the safety, sustainability, and accessibility of all water supply systems.
As the primary regulator of water affairs in the Kingdom, the authority plays a central role in supervising and shaping the national water strategy.
