660 MW electricity to be added to National Grid this month

660 megawatt electricity is expected to be added to the national grid by the end of this month as the second unit of the Karachi Port Qasim is to start generation by the end of Karachi.

China Pakistan Economic Corridor Project Director, Mr. Hassan Dawood Butt said in a recent statement that the second leg of Karachi Port Qasim, being constructed under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor project will begin production at the end of this month. He said that the first unit was already generating 660 MW for the national grid, and now with the initiation of second tier the total output from Karachi Port Qasim Power plant will rise to 1320 MW.

The project director while briefing on other projects under CPEC said that a total of 10,400 MW have been added to the national grid since the imitation of CPEC related power projects.

Port Qasim, along with the 1320 MW Sahiwal Power Plant were two of the most pivotal power projects under CPEC.
