417 containers stuck at Port Qasim on dollar shortage

December 06, 2022 (MLN): Around 417 containers are stuck at Port Qasim due to the non-arrangement of dollars by the commercial bank.

At present, 250 containers of Onion, 63 containers of ginger, and 104 containers of garlic have been stuck at Port Qasim and the total value of goods stuck is around $5.5 million.

To note, the wholesale price of onion is around Rs175 per kg while the retail price is Rs250 to Rs270 per kg.

The price of these commodities will increase in the local market if importers delay the clearance further.

To recall, the current data of the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) stated that the price of onion last week decreased by 2.79%, however at present, its price increased to Rs250-270 in the local market.
