August 16, 2024 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index closed this week at 78,045 showing a decrease of 524 points or 0.7% in both PKR and USD terms.
Throughout the week, KSE-100 traded in a range of 1,069 points, between a high of 78,886 (+317) and a low of 77,817 (-752) points.
PSX average traded volume was recorded at 552.77 million shares worth Rs20.85 billion, marking an increase of 12.2% WoW in the number of shares and 1.1% WoW in traded value.
Meanwhile, the PSX market capitalization decreased by $332.82m or 0.9% to $37.33bn over the week. In PKR terms, market capitalization stood at Rs10.4 trillion.
Top Index Movers
Sector-wise, the biggest drags on the index were Commercial Banks (-220pts), Automobile Assembler (-121pts), Technology & Communication (-78pts), Cement (-76pts), and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-58pts).
Contrary to that, positive contributions came from Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+151pts), Power Generation & Distribution (+47pts), Property (+29pts), Leather & Tanneries (+21pts), and Glass & Ceramics (+19pts).
The worst-performing stocks during the week were MTL (-114pts), UBL (-100pts), OGDC (-93pts), PPL (-60pts), and NBP (-59pts).
Whereas, MARI, POL, FFC, HUBC, and MEBL added 205, 99, 96, 69, and 40 points to the index respectively.
FIPI/LIPI
Foreign investors were net buyers during the week, acquiring $5.26m worth of equities.
Flow-wise, Individualswere the dominant buyers, with a net investment of $7.18m.
They allocated the majority of their capital, $7.26m, to Oil and Gas Exploration Companies, while divesting from the Commercial Banks sector, amounting to $1.03m in sales.
On the other hand, the leading sellers were Companies, with a net sale of $4.37m.
Their most substantial sales activity was in All other Sectors, amounting to $2.86m, while they acquired $0.26m of equities in the Fertilizer.
