Weekly inflation drops by 0.73%

June 28, 2024 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group decreased by 0.73% WoW during the week ended June 27, 2024, while the SPI rose 22.88% YoY compared to the corresponding period from last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the Combined Index was at 314.57 compared to 316.88 a week earlier, while the index was recorded at 256.00 a year ago.

During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 18 (35.29%) items increased, 8 (15.69%) items decreased and 25 (49.02%) items remained stable.

On a weekly basis, a major decrease was observed in the prices of Tomatoes (25.25%), Chicken (14.20%), Onions (3.90%), Garlic (2.80%), and Bread (0.81%).

On the other hand, a major increase was observed in the prices of Wheat (8.21%), LPG (5.38%), Pulse Gram (4.72%), Pulse Moong (3.20%), and Cooked Daal (1.87%).

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI decreased across all quantiles ranging -0.67% and -0.85%.

The lowest income group experienced a weekly fall of 0.8%, while the highest income group experienced a fall of 0.67%.

On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 16.57% and 26.0%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 16.57% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 20.53%.
