US would not oppose IMF bailout: Fawad Chaudhry

September 11, 2018 (MLN): US would not be blocking Pakistan if the country decides to seek a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday.

In his statement, the minister was referring to the remarks made by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during his visit to Pakistan on Wednesday, last week.

The assurance goes in a stark contrast to the concerns raised by Mike Pompeo prior to his visit to the country, regarding utilization of IMF funds by Pakistan to pay off Chinese loans.

According to the information minister, the visit of Pompeo to Pakistan proved fruitful as many things were straightened out and broken ties between the two countries were re-invigorated.
