Talks with IMF to start from today

April 19, 2022 (MLN): Amid the massive economic challenges faced by the newly appointed government of Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to resume talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the revival and completion of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program of $6 billion from today which will continue till April 24, wherein Pakistan side will table request to exempt condition of increase in petrol and electricity rates.

Miftah Ismail being the Finance Minister will lead Pakistan’s side during the crucial discussion virtually, as per the sources.

The officials will also inform IMF about the recent tax collection of Rs7000 billion. Meanwhile, the upcoming budget for the fiscal year 2022-2023 will also be discussed.

The successful meeting will help Pakistan to procure the tranche of $1 billion from IMF.
