Sindh’s third largest city Sukkur is the largest dates market in the Asia

President Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum (PBIF), President AKIA, Senior Vice Chairman of the Businessmen Panel of FPCCI and former provincial minister Mian Zahid Hussain on Wednesday said that Sukkur has the largest dates and dry dates market of Asia. Dates and dry dates are being exported to India, Australia and America for about rupees two Billions. In addition knitted ware are also exported from Sukkur.

The veteran business leader that Sukkur is a hub of exporting fresh water fish to different countries and there are several investment opportunities in this sector through which new investors can get benefited. In order to promote and attract investment in the city, it is necessary to develop in accordance to modern day needs, in which the political influential of the city Syed Khursheed Shah, leader of opposition and Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, minister Information, Labour and Transport can play significant role.

Mian Zahid Hussain said Sukkur Dry port is approved, which will further enhance city’s exports and facilitate local products and commodities reaching national and international markets. Through promoting local exports of the City, foreign exchequer can be increased as well as new investments can be attracted.

The former minister said that Hyderabad Sukkur Motorway (M-6) which will link M-9 on Jamshoro onward Karachi is in process under CPEC. Chinese sources said that world’s largest construction company was implementing Sukkur-Multan section of Karachi-Lahore motorway project creating more than 10 thousand jobs for local.

After completion of CPEC projects, Sukkur will be conveniently connected to Karachi and Multan, which will have a significant impact on the local trade and industry. In this context, it is required to focus on attracting foreign investment, so that maximum benefits of CPEC can be attained.

Proper utilization of Sukkur’s trade potential can open new trade and business opportunities through which new investors and youth can get benefited. Sukkur chamber of commerce and industry in playing significant role in resolving problems related to business and industry of the city, however, Government should consider their recommendations, so that this city may actively participate in the growth of National Economy.
