Sale of DAP falls by 23.5% during Kharif 2021 on rising prices

October 26, 2021 (MLN): The total DAP offtake during Kharif 2021 (April- September) was 889 thousand tonnes, which decreased by 23.5 percent over Kharif 2020.

This decline in DAP offtake is due to an escalation in prices in the international market.

In its latest report issued by National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC), the availability of DAP during Kharif 2021 was 1232 thousand tonnes comprising 55 thousand tonnes of opening inventory, 733 thousand tonnes of imported supplies and 444 thousand tonnes of local production. DAP offtake was 889 thousand tonnes leaving an inventory of 353 thousand tonnes for the upcoming Rabi 2021-22.

The monthly report said that DAP offtake decreased by 3.2 percent from 228 thousand tonnes during September 2020 to about 221 thousand tonnes during September 2021.

The total availability of DAP during September 2021 was 574 thousand tonnes, which included 379 thousand tonnes stocks of the previous month, domestic production of 72 thousand tonnes and imports of 123 thousand tonnes. Offtake of DAP was about 221 thousand tonnes. The closing balance worked out to be 353 thousand tonnes.

Province-wise, DAP offtake during September 2021 increased by 2 percent in Punjab while its offtake decreased by 12, 33 and 19 percent in Sindh, KP and Balochistan respectively.

For the upcoming Rabi season 2021-22, the available quantity of DAP would be 1035 thousand tonnes, which comprises 353 thousand tonnes of opening inventory, 376 thousand tonnes domestic production and 306 thousand tonnes of imported supplies. The expected offtake of DAP is about 1003 thousand tonnes. Other phosphate products like Nitrophos (NP), MAP, SSP and NPK will also be available in the market to meet the phosphate requirements, the report said.
