PSX Closing Bell: She’s a Little Bit Dangerous

May 22, 2025 (MLN): Witnessing a dramatic twist on Thursday, the benchmark KSE-100 Index surged to a historic all-time high of 120,668.42 points during intraday trading, marking a gain of 736.97 points at 10:19 AM.

However, the bullish momentum faded quickly. By market close, the index had reversed course, shedding 778.41 points to settle at 119,153.04, down 0.65% from the previous session.

The index traded in a range of 1,637.14 points, showing an intraday high of 120,699.17 (+767.72) and a low of 119,062.03 (-869.42) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 223.28 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 31 closed up, 67 closed down, 1 were unchanged, while 1 remained untraded.

Top losers during the day were KTML (-5.43%), AGL (-4.30%), CNERGY (-4.03%), NATF (-3.49%), and LUCK (-3.10%).

On the other hand, top gainers were POML (+10.00%), TPLRF1 (+6.23%), SYS (+5.39%), BNWM (+4.80%), and GADT (+4.73%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were ENGROH (-176.85pts), LUCK (-152.84pts), PPL (-110.95pts), PSO (-50.72pts), and HUBC (-45.54pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were SYS (+181.95pts), TPLRF1 (+31.51pts), AIRLINK (+17.05pts), RMPL (+14.69pts), and HINOON (+12.27pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Cement (-231.12pts), Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (-183.44pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-159.29pts), Commercial Banks (-136.44pts), and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-82.51pts).

While the index was supported by Technology & Communication (+179.80pts), Real Estate Investment Trust (+34.30pts), Pharmaceuticals (+25.31pts), Glass & Ceramics (+9.03pts), and Leather & Tanneries (+6.51pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 74,147.80 with a net loss of 362.70 points or 0.49%.

Total market volume was 589.77 million shares compared to 667.69m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs30.81 billion showing an increase of Rs4.19bn.

There were 342,165 trades reported in 465 companies with 194 closing up, 229 closing down, and 42 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 40,708 points or 51.89% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 4,026 points or 3.50% so far this calendar year.
