PSX Closing Bell: A Glimmer of Hope

August 21, 2024 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Wednesday's trading session at 78,260.85, showing an increase of 515.33 points or 0.66%.

The index remained positive throughout the day showing an intraday high of 78,457.37 (+711.85) and a low of 77,968.74 (+223.22) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 190.86 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 70 closed up, 25 closed down, 4 were unchanged, while 1 remained untraded.

Top gainers during the day were MUGHAL (+10.00%), NBP (+10.00%), BNWM (+10.00%), PGLC (+9.48%), and PTC (+7.01%).

On the other hand, top losers were LCI (-2.27%), LOTCHEM (-2.17%), PSEL (-2.12%), MUREB (-2.01%), and SHFA (-1.33%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were NBP (+76.29pts), FFC (+62.27pts), UBL (+39.66pts), EFERT (+37.32pts), and HMB (+33.96pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were HUBC (-52.94pts), SYS (-22.10pts), HBL (-17.28pts), PSEL (-11.42pts), and DAWH (-10.68pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Commercial Banks (+208.63pts), Fertilizer (+107.61pts), Cement (+48.46pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+32.05pts), and Engineering (+22.77pts).

While the index was let down by Chemical (-13.64pts), Power Generation & Distribution (-13.06pts), Miscellaneous (-8.97pts), Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (-4.37pts), and Insurance (-2.28pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 50,315.54 with a net gain of 393.76 points or 0.79%.

Total market volume was 552.56 million shares compared to 380.72m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs14.59 billion showing an increase of Rs3.35bn.

There were 254,155 trades reported in 452 companies with 288 closing up, 119 closing down, and 45 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost 184 points or 0.23% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 15,810 points, equivalent to 25.32%.
