PSX Closing Bell: Midweek Magic

May 21, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Wednesday's trading session at 119,931.45, showing an increase of 960.33 points or 0.81%.

The index remained positive throughout the day, showing an intraday high of 120,106.21 (+1,135.09) and a low of 119,128.38 (+157.26) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 280.86 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 66 closed up, 31 closed down, while 3 were unchanged.

Top gainers during the day were POML (+10.00%), NBP (+10.00%), AGL (+10.00%), KEL (+8.20%), and PTC (+5.32%).

On the other hand, top losers were SCBPL (-4.21%), TPLRF1 (-2.61%), JDWS (-1.87%), NATF (-1.76%), and MUGHAL (-1.74%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were NBP (+149.25pts), BAHL (+103.02pts), UBL (+91.29pts), OGDC (+87.15pts), and PPL (+50.11pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were LUCK (-26.16pts), HMB (-23.81pts), SCBPL (-16.51pts), MCB (-14.01pts), and TPLRF1 (-13.56pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Commercial Banks (+412.55pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+171.85pts), Power Generation & Distribution (+68.02pts), Technology & Communication (+55.10pts), and Refinery (+50.57pts).

While the index was let down by Engineering (-12.42pts), Real Estate Investment Trust (-10.59pts), Sugar & Allied Industries (-5.07pts), Paper, Board & Packaging (-2.94pts), and Tobacco (-2.56pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 74,510.50 with a net gain of 631.61 points or 0.85%.

Total market volume was 667.69 million shares compared to 437.92m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs26.62 billion showing an increase of Rs5.81bn.

There were 301,108 trades reported in 463 companies with 287 closing up, 125 closing down, and 51 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 41,486 points or 52.89% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 4,805 points or 4.17% so far this calendar year.
