PSX Closing Bell: High Spirits

December 29, 2023 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 index ended the last trading session of 2023 at 62,451.04 showing an increase of 398.81 points or 0.64% DoD.

The index traded in a range of 836.84 points showing an intraday high of 62,644.38 (+592.15) and a low of 61,807.54 (-244.70) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 index was 362.723 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 58 closed up, 38 closed down, 1 was unchanged, while 3 remained untraded.

KSE-100 index was supported by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 121.03, Fertilizer with 88.13, Cement with 79.02, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 38.12, and Chemical with 19.99 points.

On the contrary, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 20.67, Technology & Communication with 16.35, Refinery with 14.57, Engineering with 7.68, and Insurance with 3.8 points.

Companies adding points to the index were PPL with 81.03, UBL with 48.69, OGDC with 44.92, KEL with 41.98, and EFERT with 38.73 points.

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were BAHL with 46.57, HUBC with 43.19, MCB with 20.94, MARI with 16.17 and TRG with 14.97 points.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 41,916.27 with a net gain of 348.26 points.

Total market volume was 590.593 million shares compared to 676.243 from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs16.84 billion showing a decrease of Rs3.43bn.

There were 202,931 trades reported in 359 companies with 207 closing up, 130 closing down and 22 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 gained 22,031 points, equivalent to 54.5% in the calendar year 2023.
