October 26, 2023 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index closed Thursday's trading session at 51,185.28 showing an increase of 8.15 points or 0.02%.

The index gained more than 340 points at the start of the session, however, investors' anticipation of the upcoming central bank’s decision on the policy rate and October’s inflation data, which are due next week, kept the gains in check.

Moreover, market participants are closely monitoring the upcoming review of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s standby arrangement (SBA), which if remains successful, will pave the way for a $700 million installment.

The index traded in a range of 380.04 points showing an intraday high of 51,520.68 (+343.55) and a low of 51,140.64 (-36.49) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 175.3 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 26 closed up, 57 closed down, 4 were unchanged, while 13 remained untraded.

The banking sector continued to deliver strong earnings for the quarter, contributing the most points to the index.

KSE-100 index was supported by Commercial Banks with 132.62, Leather & Tanneries with 20.14, Cement with 10.27, Tobacco with 8.14, and Close – End Mutual Fund with 7.59 points.

Companies adding points to the index were BAHL with 94.6, MEBL with 31.93, MCB with 20.41, SRVI with 20.14, and BOP with 19.37 points.

KSE-100 Index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 53.67, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 30.68, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 26.77, Fertilizer with 14.21, and Refinery with 9.12 points.

Companies dragging the index lower were PPL with 32.48, DAWH with 27.23, HBL with 25.03, BAFL with 22.86 and FFC with 20.66 points.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 34,039.84 with a net gain of 34.00 points.

Total market volume was 364.039 million shares compared to 427.394 from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs10.93 billion showing a decrease of Rs4.58bn.

There were 175,587 trades reported in 355 companies with 139 closing up, 196 closing down and 20 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 9733 points or 23.48% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 10,765 points, equivalent to 26.63% in the KSE-100.
