PSX Closing Bell: Cash Cow

May 16, 2024 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 index concluded Thursday's trading session at 74,930.70 showing an increase of 266.72 points or 0.36%.

The index traded in a range of 578.78 points showing an intraday high of 75,029.03 (+365.05) and a low of 74,450.26 (-213.73) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 index was 170.47 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 41 closed up, 53 closed down, 5 were unchanged, while 1 remained untraded.

KSE-100 index was supported by Commercial Banks (298.23pts), Engineering (57.39pts), Technology & Communication (26.44pts), Automobile Parts & Accessories (25.33pts), and Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (21.4pts).

On the flip-side, the index was let down by Fertilizer (38.97pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (28.71pts), Power Generation & Distribution (23.66pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (19pts), and Food & Personal Care Products (13.85pts).

Companies adding points to the index were UBL (138.23pts), MCB (64.42pts), SYS (34.37pts), BAFL (33.66pts), and MEBL (31.21pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were HUBC (34.68pts), EFERT (33.66pts), OGDC (27.51pts), MARI (19.83pts), and PSO (12.91pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 48,536.94 with a net gain of 72.97 points.

Total market volume was 407.63 million shares compared to 572.42m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs16.98 billion showing a decrease of Rs8.98bn.

There were 215,736 trades reported in 377 companies with 161 closing up, 194 closing down and 22 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 33,478 points or 80.76% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 12,480 points, equivalent to 19.98%.
