Private sectors’ borrowing jumps to Rs.558.5 billion in a week

June 03, 2019 (MLN): Pakistan's non-government sector has borrowed another net sum of Rs.2.72 billion during the week ended May 24, 2019, which brings the cumulative net borrowing for ongoing year to Rs.879.57 billion.

According to weekly data released by the State Bank of Pakistan, the sector's borrowing has risen by Rs.150.38 billion over the year since the borrowing as of the corresponding period of last year was recorded at Rs.729.2 billion.

The non government sector is divided into three broad categories namely, the Private Sector, the Public Sector Enterprises and NBFI. Comprising of three further sub-categories, the private sector has borrowed a net sum of Rs.558.46 billion this fiscal year, whereas the PSE's have borrowed Rs.319.39 billion and NBFI has borrowed Rs.1.72 billion.

Branching out the private sector further, we have Conventional Banks which borrowed a cumulative sum of Rs.384.43 billion, Islamic Banks which borrowed Rs.88.76 billion and lastly the Islamic branches of Conventional Banks which borrowed Rs.85.27 billion.
