Private sector key to economic success: PM

May 23, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan reaffirmed its determination to achieve a historic economic victory following its recent success in the just cause, with full commitment from both the government and the nation, the Prime Minister stated during a meeting with a delegation of presidents of Chambers of Commerce from across the country.

He said that with the collaboration of the government and private sector, Pakistan will soon emerge as a global economic power.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to activate the private sector to achieve economic self-reliance and stated that protecting the rights of the business community and providing a conducive environment for profitable business is among the government’s top priorities.

He added that several measures are being taken to promote small and medium-sized enterprises, and the government is implementing an ease-of-doing-business policy to reduce the cost of business.

He also mentioned steps being taken to facilitate access to business loans and reduce electricity prices.

Tax evasion is absolutely unacceptable, and all necessary actions will be taken to eliminate it, he said.

The Prime Minister highlighted the need to introduce modern technology in domestic industries and recognized the key role of women entrepreneurs in the country's economic development, assuring full support to ensure their active participation.

The delegation paid tribute to the Prime Minister and the Pakistan Army for the historic victory in the just cause.

They thanked the Prime Minister for the gradual improvement in the economy and business environment due to correct economic policies.

Members of the delegation noted that the stock exchange has been showing steady performance for the past two years, indicating the government's economic direction is on the right track.

The delegation reaffirmed full cooperation with the government in initiatives aimed at national development and public welfare.

They appreciated the reforms in the FBR and gave suggestions to make them more business-friendly, as per thr press release issued.

The delegation also presented their budget proposals for the next fiscal year, on which the Prime Minister instructed the Federal Minister for Finance to consider.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Planning and Development Dr. Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Industries Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, and Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik.

Also present were Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and senior officials of relevant departments.
