Power generation drops 6.4% in Sep

October 25, 2024 (MLN): The total power generation in the country decreased by 6.4% to 12,486 GWh during September 2024 as compared to 13,339 GWh in the same month of last year.

According to the monthly electricity generation data released by National Electric Power Authority (NEPRA), on a monthly basis, the total power generation decreased by 5.3% compared to 13,180 GWh in August 2024.

On a cumulative basis, in 3MFY25, electricity generation stood at 40,546 GWh, down 8.1% compared to the generation of 44,137 in 3MFY24.

Generation through Hydel, RFO, Gas, RLNG, Nuclear, and Wind registered a year-on-year decrease of 3.4%, 83.8%, 1.7%, 4.2%, 30.2%, and 3.7% respectively in September, compared with the figures in same month of last year.

On the other hand, production of Coal, Import from Iran, Bagasse, and Solar jumped by 13.5%, 65.1%, 4.3%, and 33.3% YoY, respectively.

Share-wise, Hydel held the majority share of electricity generation during the month, clocking in at 38.7%

This was followed by Coal with 19.3%, RLNG with 16.3%, Nuclear with 12.8%, and Gas with 7.9%.

Cumulatively, Hydel took the lead in electricity generation with a share of 38.3% in 3MFY25. RLNG followed at 17.5%, with Coal contributing 17.4%, Nuclear at 14.2%, and Gas at 0.0769003107581512.
