PKR slips by 11 paisa per USD

March 24, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) weakened 10.90 paisa (-0.04%)  against the US dollar in Monday's interbank session to PKR 280.37/USD, compared to the previous 280.26/USD.

This marks a continued downward trend, with the PKR losing 1.02% since its last high of 277.52/USD on October 4, 2024.

Over the past week (-0.07%), month (-0.25%), fiscal year-to-date (-0.72%), and calendar year-to-date (-0.65%), the rupee has consistently depreciated, indicating continuous pressure on the local currency.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 280.40 and a low (ask) of 280.35.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 280.00 for buying and 282.10 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR weakened 34.25 paisa or 0.11% against the Euro, closing at 304.02 compared to the previous value of 303.68.

Against the British Pound, PKR depreciated by 56.17 paisa or 0.15% to 363.18 compared to 362.62 a day ago.

The local unit depreciated 55.53 paisa or 0.18% against Swiss franc to close at 317.83.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR's value strengthened 0.39 paisa or 0.21% to close the session at 1.8735 versus 1.8774 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee appreciated 1.32 paisa or 0.03% against Chinese Yuan to close at 38.65 from 38.67.

The local currency weakened by 2.51 paisa or 0.03% against Saudi Riyal to 74.74. While it deteriorated by 3.18 paisa or 0.04% against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 76.33.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has depreciated against the US Dollar by 2.03 rupees or 0.72%. While it has weakened 1.82 rupees or 0.65% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 1bps to 11.75% and 12.00%.
