April 03, 2024 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) depreciated by 8.08 paisa against the US dollar in Wednesday's interbank session as the currency settled the trade at PKR 277.92 per USD, compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 277.84 per USD.
The currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 278.1 and a low (ask) of 278.
In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 277.8 for buying and 278 for selling.
the country continues to face problems on the trade front, as the deficit for March widened by 24.56% MoM to $2.17 billion, compared to a negative balance of $1.74 billion recorded in February 2024.
Exports have shown a marginal drop, while imports are once again witnessing a rise.
In comparison to major currencies, PKR lost 92.05 paisa against the Euro, closing at 299.34 compared to the previous value of 298.42.
The British Pound became expensive by 47.66 paisa closing at 349.24 compared to 348.77 from a day ago.
The Swiss franc saw losses of 9.64 paisa, closing at 305.97 compared to 306.07 from the previous session.
Against the Japanese Yen, PKR lost 0.06 paisa, closing at 1.8321 versus 1.8315 a day ago.
The Chinese Yuan gained 0.9 paisa, closing at 38.41 against 38.4 from the previous session.
The Saudi Riyal closed at 74.1 with a gain of 2.15 paisa from its value of 74.07 a day ago.
The U.A.E Dirham increased in value by 2.2 paisa from 75.67 a day ago to 75.65.
During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 8.07 rupees or 2.91%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR appreciate by 3.94 rupees or 1.42%.
In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 21.41% and 21.66%.
